A few thoughts from today...
-I love meeting new teachers!! Being the only student teacher in the building, I get noticed (especially since I have an oh-so-fantastic stick on name tag that reads, "HELLO my name is:" across the front). I met a 1st grade teacher today named Stephanie. She graduated from Butler last year and it was refreshing to talk to someone who was closer to my level, the student level that is. We chatted briefly about COE (College of Ed) and Dr. Dimmick (my ST - Supervising teacher). There is nothing like making new friends :-)
-I had one of my roommates ask me what I learned so far in student teaching...after a brief moment of thinking this is what I came up with:
SOME OF MY CLOTHES ARE JUST NOT MADE FOR TEACHING.
I know it may sound like common sense, or just basic knowledge. However, as I have gotten ready for school I have discovered that some shirts just don't work when you have to move around like a kid!!
-Learning names is TOUGH!!! My most difficult today: Korean. Looks simple, wrong! The name is pronounced, "Corrin." The other difficulty with learning names is that some kids have names that are so close they might as well be the same. Take for example: Jayla, Jalyn, and Jadyn. AHH!
I leave you with a funny story:
I have been teaching about the instrument families (Strings, Woodwinds, etc.). In the process my CT and I have taught the kiddos about conducting. During the 1st grade class my CT stood on the podium and asked, "What am I standing on?". One little girl shot her hand in the air and promptly said, "POSTATIO!". I had to keep from chuckling as my CT told the class is was a podium. I think little kids are the best!
