It's Friday, the day all educators look forward to....jeans! Little did I know how exciting it was to dress in jeans. Being a teacher warrants "dressing up" everyday (a concept I do not deal well with). However, when it comes to Friday, casual is the key word!
I had my first experience teaching today. The victims? 5th and 4th graders. The plan? Review of the strings and woodwinds family. I got to design, plan, and execute my very own lesson. In the world of being a music education student, lessons planning feels very different. As hard as professors try, they can never recreate real classroom circumstances. I have enjoyed being asked the tough questions, as well as having kids call me out when I do something silly (They seem to notice EVERYTHING!).
After teaching today I have learned one important thing: when I get thrown off my lesson plan, I tend to talk faster to try to catch myself up. Funny how your flaws come to life when there are 23 little mirrors to reflect what you do.
Conclusion from my first week of teaching: ba da ba bah ba, I'm lovin' it! [insert catchy slogan tune].
